Sunday 22nd March
Explore Barton Fields Wildlife Site and surrounds with the Site Green Team and members of Abingdon Naturalists Society. Hear about its history and Natural History with the opportunity to Bird Watch including at bird feeders and see examples of its Pond and Insect Life.
Maximum number: 30 - which will be divided into groups of 10 to: a. to bird watch, b. to see pond animals, and c. to see what insect/other invertebrate life has been found. Then the groups will rotate, so everyone has a chance to see it all. Throughout escorts will talk about the Site.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Children and adults need to buy a ticket each.
Event starts on site at 10.30am and will last for around 1.5 hours.
Meeting point: Eastern end of Barton Lane opposite the Sophos exit. There is on-road parking on Barton Lane. If walking/cycling from Abingdon Town centre, follow the Hanson Way/Sustrans Route 5 through Abbey Meadows Park, left over the wooden bridge before the Weir then along Sustrans through Barton Fields to Barton Lane.
Equipment: Stout waterproof shoes/wellies best. Bring binoculars, if you have them.
Sorry but strictly no dogs as even the most well-behaved will frighten away wildlife.
The event is weather dependent. Unfortunately pond dipping is not suitable for such a large group to all do at once but we will be examining the creatures brought up out of the pond by our volunteers.
Please book tickets using the link below (will be added next week). There are adult and child tickets but you do not need to buy a ticket for a child younger than 5. Adults £3; children 5 and over £1. This is not a creche facility. Please include enough adults in your party to manage the children safely near water.
